1. Silent Night 2. What Child Is This 3. Joy To The World This isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea, but I liked it. Elmorej gives us a bit of Indie Electronica on this free digital EP. "Silent Night" is very etherial and quite relaxing and I love what they did with "What Child Is This". "Joy To The World" was less satisfying. But, hey, two out of three ain't bad. Pick it up at Bandcamp. Another "name your price" deal, where "0" equals free. 1. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas 2. Peace, Love & Mistletoe 3. Home Alone With John Williams 4. I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus Some of the free stuff you find on the web is unexpected and delightful. Like this little 2009 EP from Singapore's Inch Chua. The former front woman for the Indie Dance/Rock group Allura has set out to make some music of her own. "Peace, Love & Mistletoe" is a fine introduction. We start off with a gorgeous version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", which would fit very nicely into anyone's personal Yule Log mixtape. Next up, the original title track is a wonderful slice of Indie Pop, intimate yet bright and bouncy--a real nice feel good song. Then comes "Home Alone With John Williams" where Inch gives us a taste of her electronica (or folktronica, as she calls it); it's creative, witty at times, completely different, and yet entirely Christmasy. Six minutes does seem a bit much, though. The EP closes with just Inch and her ukelele on the holiday favorite "I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus", which she delivers with the perfect combination of child-like innocence and young adult understanding. Be warned, though, Santa's doing a bit more than kissing in Inch's version. Nothing vulgar, but it does catch you off guard in a "what did she just say" kind of way. "Peace, Love & Mistletoe" is available as a FREE download from Inch through BandCamp. If you're intrigued, her "Covers" EP is also free and her most recent full album "Wallflower" is a "name your price" deal. Links to both can be found on the right hand side of the PLM page. |
